Counseling Services

Welcome to Mesa College Counseling

Mesa College counseling faculty are available to meet with you in a variety of ways to assist in achieving your academic goals. We are committed to providing a positive college experience for you through several counseling methods. From a certificate of achievement, Associates degree, transfer from Mesa to a university, or personal counseling/development we are here to support you!

We recommend that students seeking assistance with the following, make an appointment to see a counselor once the semester begins .

  • Comprehensive educational planning
  • Financial aid appeals
  • Career planning/counseling
  • Personal counseling
  • Transfer advising

Appointments are available throughout the semester, but will be limited during all class registration periods.

Appointments can be scheduled by telephone, in person, or online at

Students are required to meet the following criteria prior to scheduling a counseling appointment:

  2. Completed one semester.
  3. Completed the Placement Assistant OR an English and math class.
  4. Official transcripts of all colleges attended on file.
  5. Official transcripts must be evaluated for course equivalency. (Students must request for an evaluation that can take up to 30 business days to process.)

Appointments are made one week in advance by calling or coming into the office, early in the day, for your best opportunity to receive an appointment.

Drop-in Counseling

Throughout the year, counselors are also available for brief advisement sessions, commonly referred to as drop-in counseling . Students, who have quick questions or any of the following situations, can be seen during drop-in counseling .

  • Assistance with current class registration
  • General information regarding the college or degree/certificate programs
  • University transfer information
  • Petitions
  • Holds
  • Prerequisite Clearance
  • Transfer Agreements

Need to submit your official college transcripts or test scores?   Mail all official college transcripts and test scores to:

San Diego Community College District, SDCCD Records Office, 3375 Camino del Rio South, San Diego, CA 92108-3883.

To request an official evaluation of your transcripts, complete a Request for Transcript Evaluation available in the Counseling Office (I4-303). (Allow approximately 4-6 weeks for your transcript/s to arrive.)

To apply for financial aid:  Complete the FAFSA and the California College Promise Grant (formerly Board of Governors Fee Waiver).

We have a number of programs to assist you with achieving your academic goals here at Mesa College.

International Students - A resource for non-immigrant students attending San Diego Mesa College on F-1 student visas.

MAAP - The Mesa Academic and Athletics Program (MAAP) is a cooperative effort between the Counseling and Physical Education/Athletic Departments dedicated to the academic success of Mesa student-athletes.

Mesa Academy - A student support program designed to enhance African American student success.

The Transfer Center - Serves as a resource center for students interested in transfer. Check out brochures, catalogs, workshops, and more!

Veteran Students (VA) - Designated counselors are here to help veteran students in any way we can. Anyone entitled to V.A. benefits should first contact the Veteran's office at 619-388-2805.

Puente Project - A student support program designed to enhance Latino/a student success.

Testing and Orientation - The testing session will help determine which English and math classes you are prepared to take. Orientation will cover essential information on certificate, degree, and general transfer information. It will also address registration, college policies, and procedures that you need know to be successful at Mesa College.

Career Center - Provides students with workshops, events, resources, tools and counseling to support career and major decision making and job readiness skills such as resumes, job search, and internships.

Mesa Online Advising Center (MOAC) 
Welcome to the San Diego Mesa Counseling Center. Our Counseling faculty are available throughout the year to assist you with academic advising (vocational and transfer), career, and personal counseling. Note that this service is available to Mesa College online students.
