
Mesa College Theatre company
MCTC is a four semester Associate Arts degree program that offers students a unique company-based approach to learning theatre making. Students learn acting, voice, stage movement, scenic design, lighting design, costume design and construction, make-up, production and marketing, and production management. In addition to course work students are cast in mainstage productions, and granted the opportunity to stage manage, and design scenery, lighting, costumes, props, and sound on each production. MTCT engages students in hands-on experiential training that is develops leadership skills, and enhances creative thinking. Students are mentored by faculty and staff with extensive professional credits in the performing arts. The company maintains the highest standards of professionalism and emphasizes mutual respect as a requirement for effective creative collaboration.
Upon completing the program students may transfer to a four year institution to earn a bachelors degree, or pursue work in the industry. Graduates from the program have appeared locally on stage at the La Jolla Playhouse, Cygnet Theatre, The Diversionary Theatre, on Broadway opposite Alan Cummings, Dianne Wiest, America Ferria and more. Others hold crew and technical positions at the Old Globe Theatre, other regional and corporate theatre companies, and have film and television credits in New York and LA.
• A two-year training program for theatre artists.
• Follows the structure of a repertory theatre company.
• 2 to 3 productions each semester.
• Meets three hours a day, four days a week, plus 4 production weekends
each semester.
• Directing opportunities exist for some students
